Why poetry?

It is obvious that poetry sort of left the people at some point in history and with out any law left the public domain.  This changed poetry by making what was now public work mostly rather dry and pretentious high brow poetry which the masses had no desire for.  This prevented many English majors from happening and even hurt the reputation of Shakespeare.

The answer to the question is that poetry is incredibly awesome, fascinating, and a condensed or concise way of using language.  It does not have to be deep or profound.  In fact poetry at it's best just puts a bit more heart into the language and that should be more fun than depressing.  But since Sylvia Plath and Ann Sexy the world of poetry has taken Robert Frost to a brand new level.  Perhaps causing the unfortunate birth of John Ashbury.
