Lewis Carol might be referring to a form of personal physics here, but in a more global world why not apply that there. That as a reaction to expanding shrinking might result. This is not as fatalistic a vision as it seems, but more like deconstruction. To me the whole world is going through deconstruction, and the process of elimination. Does sound kind of scary I know, but there is a silver lining or should I say gold. Like panning for gold the valuable stuff remains when the sand is gone. I even like throwing fools gold into this. Fools gold being money at times. Especially when money kills what is important about time and human values, which can get degraded by "Materialism" which can be seen as the cultural price we pay. Drugs, guns, cars, sex, pornography, sports, hate, violence, envy, vengeance, fear, suspicion, competition, bragging, purchasing, tourist traps, nihilism, narcissism, entertainment, etc..
So with time what is discovered?

Imagine and put your mind into new positions..
Then you will go beyond into the realm of time.
